AAST 118 - Studio Museum in Harlem: Africana Art in ContextFC ARHU CD Using the Studio Museum in Harlem as a reference point, this course is an exploration of the work created by artists of African descent, and the range of art that has been inspired and influenced by Black culture. Through a call-and-response framework that juxtaposes contemporary works against their historical counterparts, students will form an understanding of the visual lineages of African diasporic artists across generations. A particular focus will be understanding the social, political, and cultural contexts that have shaped Black artistic production across time, space, and form.
