TECH 453 - The Body in Time-based Media

This class will address the artist’s body as the foundation for exploring time-based art practices. The class will include readings, discussion, and practical assignments to critically explore the concept of “the body” in time-based art and technology. Class time will focus on past and current 4D artists, sharing work, and discussion. Homework will involve readings and practical assignments to be presented in class. The final project is a new creative work in response to course topics, including: Happenings and early performance art; sounding bodies; the medical gaze; gender, identity, and autobiography; video and Internet art; and documentation and ephemera.
