APST 451 - Seminar in Orchestral Conducting


Second Semester. A one-year course. Development of all elements of the conductor’s craft: solfege, harmonic and formal analysis, rhythmic security, aural imagery, knowledge of instruments and voices, technique/vocabulary of gesture, group management and psychology, rehearsal techniques, programming. Participation in performing ensembles and assistance in preparation of ensembles for performance are included.

Prerequisites & Notes
Prerequisites: See statement under Master of Music in Conducting. APST 450 is prerequisite to 451. Consent of instructor required.
Enrollment Limit: Open only to orchestral conducting majors.
