Course Appropriate for New Students Attribute

Courses identified as appropriate for incoming first-years have a CANS (Course Appropriate for New Students) attribute assigned in Banner. Courses tagged as “appropriate for new students” are meant to be accessible to all incoming first-year students when they submit their course preferences in the summer. As such, courses that require placement or prerequisites are not included.

This new attribute will allow incoming first-years to search the Browse Schedule of Classes task in OberView prior to coming to campus in the fall. The information is also displayed in the course description in the catalog.

Course Attribuites for One-on-One Arrangements

Courses that are considered one-on-one arrangements, such as private readings, individual research, and honors courses do not carry the following attributes: Writing, Quantitative and Formal Reasoning, and Cultural Diversity.

Academic Standing GPA Update

For Bachelor of Arts students admitted fall 2021 and later, a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.

Full-Time and Part-Time Status update

Full-time status for all undergraduate students is 12 credits. The number of credits required for full-time status is distinct from the number of credits required to maintain satisfactory degree progress for the purposes of academic standing.
