Arts and Creative Technologies Minor

The minor consists of a minimum of 20 credits (5 full courses or the equivalent) and a learning portfolio.

Note: Students must earn minimum grades of C- or P for all courses that apply toward the minor.

The Arts and Creative Technologies (ARCT) minor trains students to be active contributors to global conversations about the expressive potential of technology, and makes tangible and visible the unique cross-divisional opportunities for study in the arts, media, and technology at Oberlin. It provides a hands-on understanding of sound, video, and interactive media software and hardware tools and a context for their deployment. The minor draws on well-established interdisciplinary connections between the core departments and programs of TIMARA, Computer Science , Cinema Studies , and Studio Art .

The Arts and Creative Technologies minor is open to any student in the College or Conservatory, irrespective of major. However, the minor may not substitute for a major. Students wishing to complete the ARCT minor should consult with an academic advisor or one of the minor co-chairs and complete the Interdivisional or Arts & Sciences Minor form. The form requires the signature of one of the co-chairs.

Learning Portfolio

Return to the summary of requirements.

In addition to the above requirements, students will also develop a learning portfolio with substantive pieces of work from each of the classes taken to fulfill the minor. The learning  portfolio must also include a reflection piece that explicitly connects the learning outcomes in the different courses. This reflection will be shared with the advisor (faculty liaison) and Conservatory and College Interdivisional Curricular Committee for the purpose of assessing student learning.
