The minor consists of a minimum of 12 credits, a committee examination requirement, and a performance requirement.

Note: No credit with a grade lower than D may be counted toward the requirements of the minor.

Declaring the Minor


  • The minor is open to all students earning a Bachelor of Music degree.
  • The student must be recommended by their private study teacher.
  • The student must be approved by the organ department, after at least two semesters of secondary study.

First Minor Committee Examination

  • Administered after two semesters of secondary private study.
  • Consists of the preparation of a hymn and the performance of a standard piece of organ repertoire; the repertoire performance may be presented in a studio class or departmental recital.
Second Minor Committee Examination

  • Administered after four semesters of secondary private study.
  • Consists of the preparation of a hymn and the performance of a standard piece of organ repertoire; the repertoire performance may be presented in a studio class or departmental recital.
