Musical Theater Major

The musical theater major consists of a minimum of 126 credits, a private study committee examination requirement, a production requirement, and a performance requirement.
Note: No credit with a grade lower than D may be counted toward the requirements of the major.

Musical Theater Major Non-Course Requirements
First Major Committee Examination
- Administered in the second semester of the first year.
- Consists of four prepared songs. During the committee, the student will select one song to perform and the voice faculty will select a second song from the four songs.
Second Major Committee Examination
- Administered in the second semester of the second year.
- Consists of six prepared songs. During the committee, the student will select one song to perform and the voice faculty will select a second song from the six songs.
Crew/Backstage
- May be completed in either the first or second semester of the third year.
- Students are required to assist backstage, or in the creation of, at least one Oberlin Music Theater production.
Senior Recital/Showcase
- Administered in the second semester of the senior year.
- The senior showcase is a performance resulting from a collaborative process where each student will act, sing, create, and design at the highest level to form a complete showcase performance.
