Composition Minor

The minor consists of a minimum of 20 credits, a committee examination requirement, and a performance requirement.

Note: No credit with a grade lower than D may be counted toward the requirements of the minor.

The minor is open to all students earning a Bachelor of Music degree.
The student must have completed eight credits of composition coursework.
To apply for the minor, the student must submit a portfolio of three notated pieces (with attendant recordings if available) for review by the composition faculty.

Note: Each of the courses below may be repeated up to four times to satisfy this requirement.

Notes:

The minor committee examinations will be scheduled once the minor is approved.

Administered at the end of the first semester of the senior year.
Consists of works presented to a faculty jury composed of the entire composition department.

Administered at the end of the second semester of the senior year.
Consists of works presented to a faculty jury composed of the entire composition department.

The performance requirement may be fulfilled through Explorations concerts, Melded Sounds, and/or another departmental performance opportunities.
