Composition Minor

The minor consists of a minimum of 20 credits, a private study committee examination requirement, and a performance requirement.

Note: No credit with a grade lower than D may be counted toward the requirements of the minor.

The minor is open to all students earning a Bachelor of Music degree.
The student must have completed eight credits of composition coursework.
To apply for the minor, the student must submit a portfolio of three notated pieces (with attendant recordings if available) for review by the composition faculty.

Each of the courses below may be repeated up to four times to satisfy this requirement.

Notes:

The minor committee examinations will be scheduled once the minor is approved.

Administered at the end of the first semester of the senior year.
Consists of works presented to a faculty jury composed of the entire composition department.

Administered at the end of the second semester of the senior year.
Consists of works presented to a faculty jury composed of the entire composition department.

The performance requirement may be fulfilled through Explorations concerts, Melded Sounds, and/or other departmental performance opportunities.
