Credits and Auditing

Credits

Students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and/or the Conservatory of Music may receive academic co-curricular credit for work in ExCo courses; students should visit the main catalog to see detailed graduation requirements for their respective degree.

ExCo coursework requirements vary from course to course, as supervised by the committee. Most ExCos are offered for either one or two credits. One credit is equivalent to 0.25 courses, while two credits are equivalent to 0.5 courses (i.e., a half course).

Instructors may receive credit for up to one credit more than the number of credits for which the course is being offered.

Auditing

ExCo courses are not eligible for formally-recorded auditing. However, it is sometimes possible to informally audit an ExCo course by arranging with the instructor to attend the course without registering; in these cases, the ExCo course will not be listed on the transcript. All students are held to the same standards regardless of whether they have officially registered or are informally auditing. Regularly-enrolled students and auditors alike are expected to show up to class, participate, do the assignments, and be respectful of their classmates and instructor(s). The integrity you as a student demonstrate in your ExCo course is part of what has helped this program survive 50 years.
