GERM 420 - Urban Trajectories: City and Space in German Modernist Prose This course may also count for the major in (consult the program or department major requirements) : Comparative Literature Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3HU, CD Providing the distorted and fragmented settings for equally disjointed narratives, the citiscapes of German modernist novels are impersonal, transient, and fraught with significance. We will examine the ways in which representations of Berlin, Paris, Vienna, and New York evoke the onslaught of sensory stimuli on the human cognitive apparatus, the social effects of major cultural and economical transformations, and various reconfigurations of history and memory.
