RELG 286 - Religion in the Contemporary Americas FC ARHU 4 credits This course offers a broad survey of religion in the contemporary Americas from the late nineteenth century to today. We will consider a range of transnational religious movements, including theosophy and the “global occult,” to Black Jews and early Rastafari, to evangelical Protestantism in the United States and Latin America. Hemispheric in scope, it asks to what extent we can tell a story about religion in the Americas and the challenges in so doing. And most of all, it considers how such a perspective might enhance or complicate our understanding of religion in the world today. Course Last Offered/Scheduled: Spring 2018
