DANC 250 - Dance History: Dance in the 20th Century

FC ARHU CD WADV
4 credits
American Dance in the 20th Century investigates the ways bodies are influenced by and, in turn, influence cultural trends. We will look at many of the critical moments of American history (including African-American migration, industrialization, womens, labor, civil and gay rights movements) through the lens of dancing in people’s everyday lives and the development of dance as a theatrical genre. Together we will sort through a variety of aesthetic, social, and political questions about the role of dance in 20th century America. Students will be exposed to research involving primary sources and an opportunity to practice writing dance history themselves.
Course Last Offered/Scheduled: Fall 2017
