RELG 216 - ApocalypticMode(s) of Instruction: In-person FC ARHU WINT 4 credits Apocalypticism conjures images of a cataclysmic end of the world, but the genre of apocalyptic includes far more than warnings of imminent destruction. The root derives from apokalypsis or revelation, and apocalyptic texts typically claim privileged knowledge through a supernatural revelation of historical or otherworldly disclosures. This course will examine Jewish and Christian apocalyptic texts and then trace afterlives of these texts and worldviews from the Middle Ages to the present day. Course Last Offered/Scheduled: Spring 2021
