SOCI 345 - Gender, Work, and Labor in a Transnational Context FC SSCI CD 4 credits This course serves as an introduction to social inequality in the contemporary United States. We will investigate sociological explanations of who gets what and why in varying social contexts. The course is divided into two broad sections. First, the course will cover classic and contemporary theoretical perspectives of social inequality. Second, the course will cover the various dimensions of inequality and how they are experienced and maintained (i.e., class, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, privilege, and oppression). We will consider the ways in which systems of inequality are maintained through education, labor markets, public policy, and the criminal justice system. Prerequisites & Notes: 100-Level Sociology course or two social sciences courses. Course Last Offered/Scheduled: Spring 2016
