HIST 912H - Museum Narratives HC SSCI WINT 2 credits This course examines the history of the museum from the late 18th century to the present through visits to and study of Londons museums. By exploring museum narratives, the myriad ways museums present and conserve the past, we will see how museums shape and reflect our thinking about the past and the present, articulate ideologies that represent or challenge dominant thought, and embed assumptions about how we learn. We investigate the history, theory, design, and practice of museums through readings, discussions museum visits, and meetings with curators, outreach directors, and museum studies experts.
Prerequisites & Notes: Taught in London. Prior application and acceptance to the Oberlin-in-London Program required. Course Last Offered/Scheduled: Spring 2016
