ENGL 277 - American DramaFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits Selected works of major American playwrights. Emphasis will be placed on close reading, as well as on the significance of each play in regard to political and social movements of the time and the evolution of the American theater. Among the playwrights to be considered: Odets, O’Neill, Williams, Hellman, Albee, Shepard, Baraka, Bullins, Fornes, Kushner. Please note: Not open to students who have taken ENGL 365. Prerequisites & Notes: Students should have completed a Writing Intensive course or gained Writing Certification in any course in the humanities. Requirements can be waived with instructor consent. Not opened if student took ENGL 365 Counts toward Critical Inquiry portion of Theater Major This course is cross-listed with THEA 277
