LATN 318 - Poetry of CatullusFC ARHU CD WADV 4 credits We will read the poetry of Catullus, one of the most prominent poets of late Republican Rome, and key figure in the development of Roman lyric, elegiac and epic poetry. We will pay particular attention to the challenge that Catullus presents to Roman standards of masculinity, and to the way that his subversions of poetic norms present challenges to Roman politics. We will also read modern criticism of Catullus and of Roman lyric and elegiac. Prerequisites & Notes: LATN 202 or equivalent
