AAST 337 - African Capitalists and African Development: SeminarFC SSCI CD 4 credits The World Bank, backed by the West, has been leading efforts to stimulate capitalism and development in Africa. African capitalists have been conceived as the linchpin of this project, but their ability to spearhead economic growth has been disappointing. This course examines why this is the case, highlighting the political and institutional barriers to the rise of African capitalists, and their implications for development.
