PSYC 310 - Advanced Methods in Racism and Asian American Mental HealthFC SSCI CD QFR 4 credits Despite being stereotyped as “model minorities,” the psychological literature demonstrates that Asian Americans experience racism and are detrimentally affected by it. In this course, we will explore the nature of anti-Asian American racism, how it may be internalized, and effects on mental health. We will also consider how racism directed at one group perpetuates racial oppression more generally.
Students will have access to survey data from an ethnically diverse sample of Asian Americans. They will develop research questions and gain exposure to both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Prerequisites & Notes: PSYC 200 and PSYC 300 or permission of instructor.
