POLT 290 - Global Critical TheoryFC SSCI CD 4 credits This course explores the origins and trajectories of critical theory: a form of social-scientific inquiry that is unabashedly both descriptive and normative. At its core, critical theory has always been a mediation on the power of media and the broken promises of Western modernity. This course will focus on how theorists from Europe, East Asia, and the Americas have sought to re-interpret the modern world, in order to change it.
Prerequisites & Notes: Some prior exposure to the work of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud recommended. This course is appropriate for new students.
