ANTH 350 - Ethnographic MethodsFC SSCI CD 4 credits The class takes an experiential approach toward learning the process of formulating a research question, choosing appropriate methods, conducting ethnography, and analyzing ethnographic data. In addition to learning how to design and conduct an ethnographic study, we will consider the research sensibility encouraged by ethnographic methods and the purposes toward which ethnographic research can be put. Students will consider classical approaches to ethnography, the challenges posed by “studying up,” and strategies for decolonizing research methods. Readings include examples of ethnography, methods texts, and methodological essays.
