EAST 203 - Modernism and World LiteratureFC ARHU CD 4 credits This course studies various expressions of literary modernism in European, North American, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean literature. Studying literary works from the West and East Asia, we examine their themes, prominent features and techniques, and historical contexts to understand what modernity means to these geopolitical locations. In comparing these works, we investigate the influences of Euro-American literary traditions on the East Asian literary culture and the colonial relations between China, Japan, and Korea. This course is appropriate for new students.
