ARST 114 - Introduction to Figure Drawing

FC ARHU
4 credits
This course provides an introduction to the perceptual study of the human form through drawing, while interrogating historical and contemporary narratives embedded within portrayals of the human figure. Students will work from the draped and undraped life model with emphasis on direct observation. Students learn to convincingly depict the figure through the study of gesture, line, value, spatial relationships, surface anatomy, the figure in the environment, and compositional devices. Projects address a range of technical and historic contexts to better understand the role of the human form in art. Materials include graphite, charcoal and other dry media.
