This single Module-Course provides an introduction to Mosque as one of the most important institutions in the history and the social life of Muslim societies across all cultures. In its spiritual, socio-political and architectural dimensions, mosque plays a fundamental role in day-to-day Muslim life. The course provides an overview of various functions of mosques in Islamic tradition including religio-spiritual, socio-cultural, educational, political and city management. Topics covered include elements that constitute Muslim institutional and spiritual traditions, architectural expressions, and approaches to family and political problem-solving. Field trips required.
This course is appropriate for new students.
