FCSSCICDWADV4 credits In addition to immigration being one of the leading issues shaping contemporary politics, immigrants make up a growing share of electorates in advanced democracies. Why is immigration a divisive issue, and has it always been this way? Have governments and political parties served the needs of immigrants and their children? How has this affected political attitudes and behavior within immigrant communities? This course begins by examining the roots of the debate surrounding immigration before considering the consequences of this debate for how immigrants fare in Europe and the US and for how they subsequently orient themselves to governments and politics.
