THEA 307 - Directing II: Craft meets Collaboration: Tools and Tactics for Emerging DirectorsFC ARHU PRAX 4 credits This intermediate directing course focuses on developing collaborative skills between directors and actors through rigorous text analysis, personal creative practice, and practical scene work. Students will direct two scenes with a small ensemble of actors, learning to balance textual acumen with intuitive artistry. Drawing from Peter Brook’s empty space philosophy, Katie Mitchell’s systematic approach to director’s craft, Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints methodology, and Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis for actor collaboration, students will develop both their technical skills and their unique artistic vision. The course emphasizes the director as a creative leader in the process rather than the sole author, fostering an environment where rigorous preparation meets spontaneous discovery in rehearsal.
