GEOS 206 - Earth Tectonics and Dynamics

FC NSMA QFR
4 credits
Processes operating deep inside the Earth control the shape and appearance of the Earth’s surface, as well as affect the composition and interaction (dynamics) between the continents, the oceans, and the atmosphere. This course focuses on geologic and geophysical data to investigate the evidence for plate tectonics, as well as our current understanding of Earth’s structure and dynamics. Students will analyze geophysical (seismic) and structural datasets to interpret tectonic histories from diverse settings, assess whether tectonics on Earth has changed through time, and how it might change in the future.

Prerequisites: One 4-credit 100-level GEOS course.
