FCNSMAQFR4 credits Organic chemistry with a biological emphasis. Following CHEM 205, this second course in organic chemistry focuses on the major classes of biomolecules and related chemical and biological transformations. Topics include carbonyl chemistry, molecular recognition, enzyme kinetics, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, biochemical processes, and drug discovery. By taking both BIOL 223/224 and CHEM 254, students are exposed to the material typically covered in an undergraduate introductory biochemistry course.
