What governs the circulation of goods, money, labor, and ideas in the global economy? This course surveys the field of international political economy, exploring neomercantilist, liberal, and critical theoretical perspectives. Topics include international monetary relations, financial crises, trade agreements, multinational corporations and globalized supply chains, the role of NGOs, and the balance of power between Global North and South. Readings from textbook chapters, oral histories, and critical commentary will shed light on the contemporary reality of unparalleled inequality and interdependence. Not open to students who have taken POLT 117.
