CIME 370 - Francophone Cinemas of the African Diaspora
FCARHUCDWINT4 credits This course introduces students to the filmmaking practices in the French and adjacent languages (i.e., Créole, Bambara, Wolof, etc.) from the African diaspora (Sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb, and the Caribbean). We will address the social, economic and political conditions shaping the development of cinema as an artistic, social, and political practice. Taught in English, although expertise in the French language will be much appreciated.
Prerequisites: CINE 250/FREN 320. This course is cross-listed with FREN-470
