PSYC 317 - Advanced Methods in Cognitive and Social Psychology: The Replication Crisis

FC SSCI
4 credits
Replication in science involves repeating prior research to determine generalizability across time and context. In recent years, the field of psychology has received attention - and some criticism - due to a failure to replicate a variety of findings. In this course, students will work in groups to replicate important studies in the fields of cognitive and/or social psychology. They will conduct literature reviews, pre-register their studies, carefully design materials and procedures to match the original studies (with some adjustments), collect and analyze data, and report research in APA format. Replicating research is important for the field of psychology and is a useful way to gain experience with the research process. This course is restricted to PSYC majors only.

Prerequisites: PSYC 218 or PSYC 207 or PSYC 209.
