SOCI 115 - Introduction to Sociology: Building a Tool-Kit for Social Inquiry

FC SSCI CD
4 credits
This course focuses on sociology as a practical discipline. Students develop a “tool-kit” for social inquiry by learning the key concepts that sociologists use as their shared language to study society. By exploring the connection between these concepts and current events, students gain a foundational understanding of sociological theory, the role of social institutions, and sources of social inequality. Students will also become familiar with the history of sociology and contemporary issues commanding the attention of sociologists. This course will also highlight the range of professional opportunities available to practicing sociologists.

This course is appropriate for new students.
