FCARHUCD4 credits This upper-level intensive seminar will explore the work of Bell Hooks, one of our greatest American writers. Bell Hooks gained public recognition with her first book: Ain’t I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism, and became one of the earliest writers to articulate the nature of Black Feminism. Having written nearly 40 books across several genres–many of which created new modes of interweaving historical, political, personal, spiritual and cultural modes of literary expression. The course will interrogate her work across her career and track the evolution of her thinking on a number of topics that remain highly relevant. The course requires a heavy reading load, in-depth critical thinking, discussion leadership, critical writing and creative projects.
