CAST 221 - Immigration and the American Dream

FC SSCI CD
4 credits
A foundational story about the United States is that we are a nation of immigrants. Another is the idea of the American dream. This course takes up these foundational narratives to explore the contemporary immigration landscape through multiple lenses: Shifting immigration policies and landscapes of enforcement; immigrant communities in local and transnational contexts; immigrant social movements; and debates around immigration on local, regional and national levels. This course employs a transnational Americas approach for understanding one of the most polarizing and important issues in contemporary politics both in the US and globally.

Community-Based Learning
This course is appropriate for new students.
