EVSS 204 - Labor and Climate JusticeFC SSCI CD WINT 4 credits The climate and labor movements are among the largest social movements in the world today. Yet corporations routinely pit unions and climate organizers against one another with a “jobs versus the environment” narrative that maximize profits. This class historicizes and deconstructs this divisive narrative in order to identify common ground between labor and environmental politics. We will read scholarship on the relationship between work and nature, then turn to historical case studies that illustrate the complex entanglements between unions and the environmental movement. Finally, we will explore what it might mean to build a robust labor-climate justice movement in the present.
