HIST 387 - A More Perfect Union: Race and the Federal Government, 1876-2020FC SSCI WADV 4 credits How has the question of race defined the development of the United States? This seminar will offer students a deep investigation into how questions of race, in tandem with gender, and class politics, shaped the growth of the American state. This class will also explore the evolving definition of citizenship in relation to immigration and the law. Students will study how the concept of immigration transformed with time, evolving from an essential part of the U.S. to a crisis in need of management.
