Performance Major: Strings Concentrations


The performance major with concentrations in strings (cello, double bass, viola, and violin) consists of a minimum of 160 credits, a private study committee examination requirement, and a performance requirement.

Note: No credit with a grade lower than D may be counted toward the requirements of the concentration.

Large Ensemble Elective Courses

Note: All required large ensemble elective courses must be taken at Oberlin. Students must register for a large ensemble elective course every semester in residence as assigned. Chamber Music Elective Courses

Notes:

  • All required chamber music elective courses must be taken at Oberlin. Transfer students are required to participate in a chamber music ensemble in every semester of enrollment up to a maximum of six semesters.
  • Only two credits of APST 806  will apply toward the chamber music elective course requirement for cello, viola, and violin concentrators. Double bass concentrators are not eligible to take APST 806 .
  • It is recommended, but not required, that double bass concentrators fulfill the chamber music elective course requirement with APST 812 .
