HIST 103 - American History to 1877FC SSCI CD 4 credits Gives attention to inter alia, pre-contact Indian civilizations and contact; patterns of colonization; politics, religion, and society in British mainland colonies; other European settlements; development of Western Hemisphere slavery; the struggle among European powers for North American supremacy; causes, ideology, events, and implications of the American Revolution; the rise of political tension in the early republic; growth of parties, industrialization, and abolitionism; sectional conflict; and the crisis of union and reconstruction.
This course is appropriate for new students.
