HIST 343 - Research Seminar: War, the Military, and the American Nation
FCSSCIWADV4 credits This course is about, and how to do, American military history. It explores American history through the perspective of its wars and military, as well as their role in the development of society, politics, economy, and culture. Students will pursue an individual historical research project using primary and secondary sources. Project proposal, progress, and results will be shared with the class for discussion concerning historical interpretation tied to sources, methodology, and historiography. Wide latitude is given for topic selection. Students should have tentative topics in mind at the start of the course. Students must have demonstrated proficiency in U.S. history since the early 18th century.
