HIST 285 - American Indians: Pre-Columbus to the PresentFC SSCI CD 4 credits This survey course examines the indigenous cultures of North America from the ‘pre-contact’ period through the late 20th century. It explores such salient themes as native encounters with European and African foreigners, pan-Indian movements and the development of race, the emergence of reservation life, the Indian New Deal, the termination of reservations, and urban relocation. The course will also consider the bearing of the past on contemporary issues regarding native sovereignty and self-determination.
