POLT 207 - Social Movements and the Policy ProcessFC SSCI 4 credits Group-based political action, in many ways, drives the making of policy in a democratic society. This course connects the activities of contemporary social movements in the United States to policy in a variety of domains, including gun policy, women’s rights, and criminal justice reform, as well as an ostensibly nonpolitical domain: college athletics. Topics will include how movements form and persist, the strategies they use to influence policy, and whether they are successful and why.
