ECON 309 - Advanced DevelopmentFC SSCI QFR 4 credits This course explores the factors determining economic development from a microeconomic and macroeconomic perspective. In the first half of the course, topics covered include population growth and fertility, poverty traps and multiple equilibria, migration and remittances, foreign aid, and the role of institutional factors and the institutions-versus-geography debate. The second half of the course explores the theory and evidence of economic development from a macroeconomic perspective. Topics include economic growth macroeconomic policies and international trade and finance.
Prerequisites: ECON 251 and ECON 253 and MATH 133.
