HISP 317 - Beyond a World of Wonders: Questioning Narratives of the ConquestFC ARHU CD 4 credits 1492 marks the date of a violent encounter that inaugurated the conditions that structure the modern world, and which transformed both Europe and the Abya Yala. This course explores and questions the narratives of the “new world” through a critical engagement with, for example, pre-Columbian writings, conquistadors’ accounts, Natural Histories, chronicles, and indigenous intellectual production. We will also pay close attention to contemporary reinterpretations and adaptations of relevant questions of the conquest and its aftermath. Taught in Spanish.
Prerequisites: HISP 304.
