CINE 212 - Social Media Explorations

The last 20 years have brought on an exponential shift in the media landscape due to the rising use of social media. In this course we will look at what defines ‘social’ media versus traditional media, look into how social media borrows from and alters previous mediums, and critically look at how social media affects individuals and the larger society. We will also create our own decentralized social media platform to explore how platform rules and algorithms can be modified to the benefit or detriment of the community.
