Sometimes known as “the father of lies,” Herodotus is also a problematic figure as the instigator of history as a mode of inquiry. Course meets concurrently with GREK 221. Intermediate students should enroll in GREK 221; advanced students should enroll in GREK 321. Course requirements will differ according to level – Advanced students will present reports on Greek grammar and syntax, as well as scholarly articles on Herodotus and fifth-century Greek history.
