GREK 207 - Comedies of Aristophanes I

We will read one of Aristophanes’ Thesmophoriazousae in Greek, and most of the other extant plays in English translation. We will also review recent scholarship on Aristophanes, with a particular focus on his comedies as political commentary, as literary criticism, and as evidence for social and sexual norms in Classical Athens.
