WRCM 101 - College Writing: Argument and InquiryFC ARHU WINT 4 credits The primary goal of this class is to teach students how to write effective, well-reasoned argumentative essays in their areas of study or interest. In order to accomplish this, students will be introduced to certain key facets of rhetorical theory, including rhetorical invention, classical argument, and the rhetorical situation. Through an analysis of the structure of classical argument, students will learn how to redeploy Aristotle’s concepts and taxonomies for a modern composing context. This course will build a toolkit for the college writer based on a rigorous consideration of style, genre, and the communicative context.
