Free your mind and the rest will follow. So goes the slogan. But how? Where did our psychic shackles come from? What does it mean to be brainwashed, red pilled, or a victim of false consciousness? This seminar will investigate key moments in the history of ideology, from Epictetus down to contemporary debates about QAnon and #FreeBritney, focusing especially on works in the Marxist, Feminist, and Decolonial traditions. Recommended Preparation: POLT 239 or another course including Marxist theory.
