PBHU 100 - Introduction to Public HumanitiesHC ARHU 2 credits Public humanities can be broadly defined as the act of putting academic humanistic knowledge to work in the world, for and with diverse communities. This course offers students an introduction to the field of public humanities and to the work of public humanists. It theorizes what constitutes the “humanities” and the “public” in public humanities work; explores why and how humanities disciplines are important tools for addressing social and political challenges; introduces students to ethical practices of community-engaged research and sharing authority; and highlights the many different kinds of tools public humanists use to engage and collaborate with communities. This half course will include hands-on work on a public humanities project.
