RELG 177 - Mosque as a Window to Islam: A Venue for Spirituality and Politics
FCARHUCD4 credits This single module-course provides an introduction to mosque as one of the most important institutions in the history and the social life of Muslim societies across all cultures. In its spiritual, socio-political, and architectural dimensions, mosque plays a fundamental role in day-to-day Muslim life. The course provides an overview of various functions of mosques in Islamic tradition including religio-spiritual, socio-cultural, educational, political, and city management. Topics covered include elements that constitute Muslim institutional and spiritual traditions, architectural expressions, and approaches to family and political problem-solving. Field trip(s) required.
